Holiday Side Dish Series
This 3-ingredient dish is the definition of simple and stunning. Onions are gently caramelized in a bath of miso butter until they’re fall-apart tender and deeply savory. A guaranteed hit at your next holiday gathering.

Ingredients
- 4 small onions
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup @sharedcultures Morel Mushroom Miso
- 2¼ cups warm water
Method
- Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C).
- Cut onions in half lengthwise and discard the skins.
- In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, miso, and warm water.
- Place onions cut-side down in a heatproof baking dish.
- Pour miso mixture over the onions and baste well.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30–35 minutes.
- Flip onions, baste again, and bake uncovered for another 30–35 minutes, or until deeply golden and tender.
- To serve: Transfer to a serving dish, pour some of the sauce over the top, and garnish with parsley. Serve hot.
