Miso Butter Roasted Onions

Holiday Side Dish Series
This 3-ingredient dish is the definition of simple and stunning. Onions are gently caramelized in a bath of miso butter until they’re fall-apart tender and deeply savory. A guaranteed hit at your next holiday gathering.

Ingredients

  • 4 small onions
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup @sharedcultures Morel Mushroom Miso
  • 2¼ cups warm water

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C).
  2. Cut onions in half lengthwise and discard the skins.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, miso, and warm water.
  4. Place onions cut-side down in a heatproof baking dish.
  5. Pour miso mixture over the onions and baste well.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  7. Flip onions, baste again, and bake uncovered for another 30–35 minutes, or until deeply golden and tender.
  8. To serve: Transfer to a serving dish, pour some of the sauce over the top, and garnish with parsley. Serve hot.
